Seven Players Traded In Indian Premier League Auction

Filed under : , by Mohamed Rias

The auction of overseas players for DLF-IPL season II will take place in Goa on February 6.

The governing council of the IPL will also hold a three-day meeting there after which the eight franchises will get a chance to buy players to fill the remaining slots for overseas players.

England players — Andrew Flintoff, Kevin Pietersen, Samit Patel — and a few more are likely to figure in the auction. The second edition of the DLF-IPL Twenty20 will be played from April 10 to May 29.

This might not be baseball’s hot stove or hockey’s trade deadline, but in the Indian Premier League, teams took advantage of the trading period, resulting in seven players finding new homes for the upcoming season, the second in the league’s fledgling history.

The biggest transaction of the day was a deal sending Indian pace bowler Zaheer Khan from the Royal Challengers Bangalore to the Mumbai Indians in exchange for top order batsman Robin Uthappa. The 23 year old righty batted 35.56 in the inaugural season. Khan, 30, scored 13 wickets this past season for Mumbai.

If you’re a cricket lover, then the next couple of weeks will likely have more deals done so teams can figure out how to dethrone the Rajasthan Royals and how the Royals plan on repeating as champions. If you’re not too familiar with cricket, don’t worry. A league as new as the Indian Premier League can always use a growing fan base, so check out the league when the second season kicks off in April.
